Age, Beer, and Chicken Fried Steak

These are my demons.

It looks as though it's been nearly six years and 20 pounds since I half-heartedly started my running blog. I'm serious now. I won't get too flowery and articulate in the way that I write....I'll save those efforts for another blog which I have also set aside.

Here are the facts today:
  • 56.5 years old
  • 185 lbs
  • Favorite beer - NW IPa's (200-300 calories per 12 oz) At least 3 per day.
  • Favorite breakfast (about twice a month) - Chicken fried steak, eggs over easy, home fries, gravy. 1500-2000 calories.
  • Left my physically active job as a retail manager six months ago to drive for Uber/Lyft.
  • Currently no regular workout program.
  • Currently no monitored food intake program.
Goals:
  • Consume fewer beers.
  • Monitor and track my food intake.
  • Start and maintain a regular and progressive running program.
  • Return to a more physically demanding line of work.
  • Enter and run road races on a monthly basis.
Today:
  • Began running program on the treadmill. Covered 1.5 miles in about 16 minutes and walked out the next 4 minutes at a brisk pace.
  • No official diet as of yet. Will have one beer as a reward.

Game On!

I took a 'rest' day yesterday. This morning I challenged the treadmill to not shut off during my workout. I was planning on two miles followed by another two tonight after work. Didn't take the speed past 7.5mph because it had been shutting down above that. I increased the incline to 6. So at two miles when that bitch was still going...I thought, GAME ON! I could do 2.5 or 3 miles, I have time and I feel good. Let's see who will quit first. The treadmill shut of at 2.6. I will still run tonight.

Can't wait to be running at Round Lake!

False Start...Reboot

Yup, pretty good start to my training program only to be derailed by a head cold. But I'm back. I ran 2 miles yesterday and two miles today. The treadmill is giving me some grief. The belt was slipping so I tightened it up a bit. Now it wants to shut down every mile our so causing me to stop and press the reset button. It could be that the belt is a little off balance now. Easy to fix

It is official. During my recent period of battling phlegm and energy loss, I took the time to get myself registered for the marathon.

Although I am (was) following my training program by Aly's Mobile Fitness with precision on a day to day basis, I may have to make a few changes. I will take the same workouts and conform them to my work schedule. I found I was trying to get a run in before a 12 hour work day and the next day called for rest....on my day off. I had no problem resting, that was easy. The next few days leading up to Christmas (which I'm working every single one, thank you) I start at 10:30am. This will make it a little easier to run each morning. I will be back on track by the end of the week.

Day 3 - Rest

My training plan today calls for rest. When I saw that yesterday, I scoffed! Really? Run two miles one day and then rest the next? Well, apparently Aly knows her stuff. Just after running two miles yesterday, I am feeling some pains today.

This is where I've made mistakes in the past. Wanting to do too much too fast and then burning myself out. Stick to the plan...focus on the goal!

I have a 12+ hour work day ahead of me, so probably just as well. Maybe I can get some stretching in when I'm not being a retail slave.

Daily Stats

Distance: 2 miles, 16:15 (8:45, 7:30)
Weight: 164.5 (post workout)

No Excuses

My potential excuse this morning: The treadmill is still in the garage with moving boxes piled on it. If the treadmill can't come to me...I go to the treadmill. I moved the boxes and fired it up. We haven't used it in a while, long before this year's move back to Loghorse Ranch. It seemed to have the same creaks and reluctance as me. For the next two miles we got reacquainted.

For anyone that may eventually follow my posts, don't let me get away with excuses for not running. Call me out on it!
